Unique pair of vintage California souvenir coasters featuring reproductions of historic early-20th-century Los Angeles-area travel imagery. Includes: • “Souvenir Folder of Venice California” beach scene • “The Original Farmers Market … Los Angeles” W. 3rd & Fairfax design The Venice artwork directly references the style and imagery of 1920s–1930s California souvenir folders/postcard ephemera, retaining distinctive period typography, bathing fashions, automobile, parasols and unusual original printed details. Important: These are not being represented as 1920s–30s coasters. The coasters themselves appear to be later vintage pieces reproducing much earlier California souvenir artwork. Approx. 3.5 square with substantial rigid black bodies, nearly square corners, thick glossy protective surfaces and separately applied coarse natural cork backs. Maker/date unmarked and currently unknown. I have been unable to locate another exact pair with these particular designs and construction despite researching similar vintage and modern California souvenir coasters.
