Antique Creil et Montereau Anémones Comb Tray | French Terre de Fer Tray
Creil et Montereau
Antique Creil et Montereau Anémones Comb Tray | French Terre de Fer Green Transferware Dish A beautifully timeworn example of French terre de fer, this antique comb tray was produced by Creil et Montereau in the Anémones pattern. Delicate deep green transferwork depicts a sweeping anemone bloom framed by sinuous Art Nouveau–influenced foliage and scrolling ornament. Measuring approximately 8.25” L × 4” W, the elongated form is divided into three shallow sections. Originally intended as a comb or vanity tray, today it makes an especially lovely catchall for jewelry, keys, matches, or other small treasures—or simply displayed as part of a collected grouping of antique French ceramics. History & Craftsmanship Creil et Montereau was one of France’s celebrated ceramic manufacturers, known for its refined earthenware and richly detailed transfer-printed designs. This piece bears the Creil et Montereau / Terre de Fer / Anémones maker’s mark on the underside, identifying both the manufacturer and pattern. Dating to approximately the late 19th to early 20th century, the tray embodies the botanical ornament and graceful lines that made French transferware of this period so distinctive. Condition Good antique condition with age-appropriate character, including light surface wear, minor discoloration, crazing, and areas of transfer wear consistent with its age and use.
